Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Page history last edited by Ryan Hughes 13 years ago

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a very holy church for Christians. This church is located in Jerusalem, Israel. This church is located on the site where Jesus was crucified by the Romans in 30CE. This is also the site of Jesus's tomb, the sepulchre, pictured, and the claimed site of his resurrection. Christians have visited this place since the 300's. In Roman times, this church was a temple to Aphrodite. In 325 Constantine I ordered that the temple be demolished and a church build to recognize the life of Jesus. This church has a long history of burning, destruction, and reconstruction.

This church is very close to the Dome of the Rock and the Western Wall

current floor plan for the church. You can see that the main part of this church is the Sepulchre of Jesus, hence the name of the church.
